"As far as I can tell, there’s only one way to stop feeling and that’s to die."
"That seems a bit drastic."
"It is drastic. Perhaps the most drastic thing there is. There are other ways to kill feelings, like drinking a lot or working hard, constantly, pushing those around you as far away as possible until there’s no way for you to reach out to them but ultimately, the only way to completely stop feeling, forever, is to die."
"I’m not sure I’m ready for that."
"Good. You’ll be a better person for it."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that the most interesting, amazing people I’ve ever met, the ones who influenced and shaped the universe itself, are the ones that felt too much but lived through it."
I want you to understand to realize and comprehend that if ever you get lost and the starlight that used to guide you is saturated in darkness, I will be waiting patiently on the horizon. I will man the lighthouse and polish the mirrors to offer you the most humble guarantee that my light will…
“The clouds are rolling in up along your chest the swirling eye of this storm is building in the gap between our touching skin the first sound of thunder and the rain begins to fall soaking and sliding and dripping onto the bed your hair drapes onto my face blown by some silent wind lightning…
“If I breathe you in and you breathe me out, I swear we can breathe forever. I swear I’ll find summer in your winter and spring in your autumn and always, hands at the ends of your fingers, arms at the ends of your shoulders and I swear, when we run out of forever, when we run out of air, your name will be the last word that my lungs make air for.”—http://www.iwrotethisforyou.me/
“So if you, really, go the whole way & see how you feel at the prospect of vanishing, of all your efforts & all your achievements, and all your attainments turning into dust… Nothingness. What is the feeling? What happens to you? It’s a curious thing. The most real state, is the state of nothingness. That’s what it’s going to all come to. For some reason or other we are supposed to find this depressing, but if somebody is going to argue that the basic reality is nothingness, where does all this come from? Obviously from nothing. So cheer up, you see? This is what is meant in Buddhist philosophy. By saying, we are all basically nothing, the essence of your mind, thus how it is behind your eyes, is intrinsically pure. The pure doesn’t mean a non-dirty story state of mind as it is apt to mean, the word purity. Pure means clear. Void. So, you know the story, when the 6th patriarch was given his office, a successor because he was truly enlightened, there was a poetry contest & the losing one wrote the idea that the mind, the consciousness, was like a mirror. Which had to be polished. & Constantly one- “I have to polish my mirror. I have to purify my mind.” See? “So that I am detached & calm, clearheaded.” You know, buddha. But the one who won the contest, said, “There is no mirror. & The nature of the mind is intrinsically void so where is there anywhere for dust?” By seeing that nothingness is the fundamental reality, then you see it’s your reality. Then how can anything contaminate you? All the idea of your being scared and put out and worried and so on, it’s just nothing, it’s just a dream, because you are really nothing. But this is the most incredible nothing. If you think of this nothingless as mere blankness, and you hold on to the idea of blankness, & you’re kind of grizzly about it, you haven’t understood it. Nothingness is really like the nothingness of space which contains the whole universe. All something the stars, and the mountains & rivers, the good men and the bad men, & the animals and the insects- the whole bit- all are contained in the void. So out of this void comes everything and you’re it. So what I’m showing you, is that all this hocus pocus, about the fear of nothingness, is that truly speaking, nothingness is what we want to talk about when we talk about the spiritual. Only it’s all been ignored, it’s all been put down. You say “Oh nothingness, BLEH! Heaven preserve us from that.” But that’s where the secret lies. & Obviously the secret always lies in the place you’d never think of looking for it.”—Alan Watts (via clumsymothz)
